Why Don't You Pray?

Many, both Christians and non-Christians, believe in the power and importance of prayer. However, it is sad that though many go to church worship services, only a few would go to a prayer meeting. Though many would make prayer requests, few would pray for it personally. Why is that? Let me share with you 4 reasons why people don't pray.
I don't know God. People don't pray because they don't know God. Would you talk to someone you don't know? How can you pray to someone whom you do not know? Praying is just like talking to someone whom you have a personal relationship with. God, first of all, longs to have a personal relationship with us. He wants to be our Father. And when we accept Him to be our Father, we become His children. As children, we can now cry "Abba Father", boldly come to His presence and pray. I don't need God. People don't pray because they feel that they don't need God. It's as if saying that I can do everything on my own. Can you? We all need God to help us in our everyday struggles. Praying indicates dependence on God. It takes humility and trust to do that. It's as if saying God I need you to do this. Without you, Lord, I am nothing. But with You, I can do all things. We just realize that we need God when we are in trouble or when we are sick or when we are desperate. But why wait for those troubled times to pray? God loves to hear from us not only during the difficult times but even in joyful times.
I don't have time, God. People don't pray because they don't have time for God. But in reality is, they don't make time for God. How can we say we don't have time to pray when we can have time to watch our favorite show on the TV or talk on the phone or surf the internet for hours. If we want to make time for prayer, we can. But it will take some sacrifice on our part. How about praying instead of reading the newspaper, or taking a few minutes off your nap or break time. Think about this: If you don't have time for God, how would you feel if He tells you that He doesn't have time for you either. So, put God in your priority to-do list. I don't care. People don't pray because they don't care if God helps him or not. They don't care if God answers prayers or not. Well, God cares. God cares for each one of us. He cares for us in every little details of our lives. He cares for our family, health, finances, emotions, and spiritual well-being. He wants to reach out to us. And it only takes a prayer away. He said "Cast your cares on me, for I care for you." Praying is not so much as an obligation. It is a voluntary act of love and response to a God who first showed His love and care for us. Why not pray?
